Our History
The first worship service and business meeting of Providence Free Will Baptist Chruch was held on December 22, 1982 at Coliseum Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. There were 114 persons in attendance. Our first speaker was Jim Harrison. Pertinent business was to establish a church name and to elect officers. The motion was made and agreed upon by the congregation to try and purchase the land and building known as Coliseum Baptist Church.

On February 2, 1983 Providence called Rev. Richard Barnes from Sanford, NC to be the pastor, by a unanimous vote. Pastor Barnes began his ministry on Wednesday March 30, 1983.

On April 17, 1983 we had our organizational and charter service to become Providence Free Will Baptist Church.

After 32 years of faithful service Pastor Barnes retired from the pastorate of Providence. In August of 2015 Pastor Daniel and his family came to serve as only the second pastor in our church’s history.

The Lord has been good to us over the years, as he has faithfully blessed and provided for us over the years. The great thing about Providence is the history is not over. Day by day, year by year the Lord continues to add to His church. Keep checking back because God is sure to continue what He has done since 1982.
